The lively Miami district inspired the Italian footwear brand

The Okinawa brand is the product of its founder’s passions: Japan, and Italian manufacture. Angelo Lupis gathered years of experience working for other footwear companies before he established his own brand of Italian footwear combining oriental culture with western inspiration, interpreted with a contemporary twist. Angelo Lupis is above all a citizen of the world, spending time in both Italy and the United States, where he has elected to live in Miami: one of America’s most exciting cities in creative, cultural and artistic scenes, home to the prestigious Art Basel Miami art show. The city’s coolest neighbourhood, Wynwood, inspires a capsule collection of sneakers for spring/summer 2023 in which the uppers become canvases to paint on. Just as the neighbourhood’s streets become an open-air museum with big wall paintings by street artists, Okinawa shoes become a concentrate of street art and brightly coloured designs. The leather uppers are covered with a film of plant-based material transfer printed through soaking in water. To emphasise the brand’s artistic vocation, its founder recently set up a partnership with Istituto Marangoni in Milan for the promotion of Miami street art in the fashion industry.
