Wedges and platforms, the craze of summer

After the rather ‘basic’ shoes of the last two summers, simple and comfortable as they required months at home and shy social interludes, spring/summer 2022 sees the wind of change blow through accessories too. This is the case for models with many and accentuated platforms and wedges that require the wearer to be skilled acrobatics. Those who have lived through the seventies will remember well the wedges trend, which has a very ancient history: already in the time of the Egyptians they were essential to lift the shoe from the ground and avoid dirtying long clothes. This summer, wedge-mania – that affects both elegant models in satin that have curved covered wedges and sporty models with wooden or super light material bottoms – has re-exploded. Wedges go up by several centimetres, fortunately balanced by thick heels of up to 12cm. The catwalks of designers and the collections of producers are full of wedges and platforms, a trend that will continue into the winter, as seen in the fashion shows. A good reason to remember to buy wedges when shopping in the next sales.
