An Instagram account looks at shoes in paintings from past centuries

Noblewomen, goddesses, hunters, nymphs, squires, emperors, soldiers of fortune, princes, hired assassins, generals: between mythological figures and portraits of famous personages, medieval and Renaissance paintings abound in feet, and therefore shoes.

And now there’s an Instagram account that seeks them out, collects and publishes them: Shoes in Art, begun in 2016 on the basis of an idea by Devon Head, a British historian who went on to become a stylist with a great passion for shoes.
