The growing passion for documents (photos or videos) that show how products are made, especially handcrafted products, probably owe their popularity to the consistently greater estrangement between the consumer and branch that lies behind each individual piece, which, today is increasingly more often located, observed and purchased directly from behind a computer screen or telephone.
The expression “maker porn” has even been devised for this type of “how is it made” mania, almost as if watching the laid-bare product come into being, expertly handled by artisans, were in some way pornographic, lustful, sinful. Sometimes, the photos are so beautiful that this metaphor becomes particularly appropriate.
