The quintessential symbol of femininity, heels have a long history dating back to the first centuries A.D. and which starts on the feet of horsemen (for those interested, the full story can be found in our shoe Dictionary.

But it was particularly from the XVIII century on that the heel began to take hold in the popular imagination as a weapon of seduction, instrument of power and fetish object. And it is this aspect that provided the inspiration for the Killer Heels exhibition, organised by the Frick Art & Historical Center in Pittsburgh.
