An exhibition of the artist’s work for couturiers and magazines will be held at the Musée du Luxembourg starting in September

A multifaceted artist and star of the Parisian scene between the two world wars and, in particular, of surrealism, the exhibition ‘Man Ray et La Mode’, from the 21st of September to the 17th of January 2021 at the Musée du Luxembourg in Paris, investigates his connection with the great couturiers such as Poiret, Schiaparelli and Chanel and with magazines such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Vanity Fair, through new and modern photographs that resulted from continuous experimentation. Arriving in Paris from New York in 1921 to join his friend Marcel Duchamp, Man Ray meets the tailor Paul Poiret, a precursor of Art Deco who had already in 1906 revolutionised fashion by freeing women from the corset. From there begins the revolution of fashion photography, moving from a documentarian approach to a new freedom of expression, documented through a large selection of photos from the 1920s and 1930s.
