The over-the-knee boot goes beyond the seasons and for SS 2023 it comes in leather, satin, or tricot

The cuissard – or over-the-knee boot (read about its history in its Footwear Vocabulary entry) – is now one of those models (like the sandal and the ankle boot) which are now transversal to looks and moods and no longer linked to a specific time of the year.

For Spring/Summer 2023, the Italian and French catwalks have exalted this boot and footwear manufacturers have added it to their collections. The materials range from leather, to fabrics, to tricot, to denim and the heights of the heels vary from flat to high, not forgetting the wedge.

Off-White, now designed by Ibrahim Kamara, interprets the luxury streetwear of its founder Virgil Abloh with the leather over-the-knee boots with a biker soul that comes in the “impossible blue” colour with warm tones.
Ermanno Scervino chose satin in citrine yellow, baby pink, and blue shades for his high-heeled boots; yellow and fuchsia also are the colours of choice by Rick Owens where the tight-high models rest on high wedges. Many other materials are also used, such as tricot, as seen in the We Are Made in Italy (WAMI) catwalk, a multicultural collective and incubator led by the stylist Stella Jean. The proposals of the Made for a Woman, designed by Eileen Claudia Akbaraly – who grew up in Madagascar, but who now lives in Milan – also include a hand-worked cuissard made of raffia.

It is the material that makes the boot in the case of AGL, a ‘Made in Italy’ brand that boasts a long history and that proposes it in a fabric of black and fluorescent sequins that are charged by light during the day and then glow in the dark. The same material is also chosen for the wedge sandals.
