The footwear designer between craftsmanship and digital devices

Alessandro Oteri has chosen to maintain an artisanal matrix for his shoes that enhance the femininity and quality of ‘Made in Italy’. But he had to give in to the advantages of technology to facilitate and speed up some processes of his work. “Before, 100 shoe designs corresponded to 100 sheets of paper” – explains the designer – “now, by using the Adobe programme to design the collection I don’t waste paper. Furthermore, technology helps me to bring some order to my chaos”. This is how Intel, to validate the performance of Intel® Evo™ certified PCs, chose Oteri, the only creative from the fashion sector, and four other international designers from other sectors to share their ‘making of’ stories through the initiative ‘The Wonder Masterclass’. In his “lesson”, Oteri explains how his Spring/Summer 2023 footwear collection was born, between timeless products that belong to his design DNA and new models. Inspiration comes from the Italian territory and its beauties, with the curves of the upper tracing the profile of the Portofino promontory and silhouettes and colours of the sea that are reminiscent of Positano and Amalfi. The iconic models of his collection take their name from these locations, which for the next season will also be enriched with super flat mules, pumps with chunky decorated heels, and sandals with ankle straps.
